Pedal Fast, Coast During 18th Annual Tour de Pig
June 1, 2009

Lexington, NC -- After hammering up a long climb, there’s nothing better than a fast coast down the road. Feel the wind on your face and the freedom to fly. Afterwards, rest up with a famous barbecue sandwich from Lexington – along with a glass of chilling cold water or iced tea.

The Barbecue Festival’s annual cycling event, Tour de Pig XVIII, will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at Davidson County Community College.

There are four rides – 100K, 50K, 35K and 20K. Registration is $35 per participant and includes staff support on the route, commemorative Tour de Pig T-shirt, commemorative collector patch, a Lexington-style barbecue lunch and restroom facilities.

Course routes are designed for all levels of ability. They include scenic rural areas of Davidson County colored brightly with lush fall foliage.

Participants can save $5 on the registration by submitting it before September 11, 2009.

The lunch is open to family and friends. The cost is $6 per adult and $4 per child.

Registration forms are available at www.barbecuefestival.com or by calling the Festival office at 336-956-1880.

Because of the popularity of this event, cyclists are urged to pre-register to guarantee placement in the rides. There is no guarantee that registration will be available on the day of the event.

The Tour de Pig is held in memory of Kay K. Saintsing, Festival founder and executive director

Proceeds will go to the Davidson County Mental Health Association. Riders are not required to raise donations or pledges – just come and ride. The Tour de Pig is sponsored by the Carolina Regional Heart Center.

Davidson County Community College is located four miles north of Lexington on Business 85 (Hwy. 29/70).  It is 20 minutes from Greensboro, 60 minutes from Charlotte and 2 hours from Raleigh.
